Man on the Moon

Kid Cudi is a very interesting hip-hop artist, with nu-disco and mash-up aspects. His debut is the concept album Man on the Moon: The End of Day. Along with Kanye West’s 808s & Heartbreak and this album by protégé Kid Cudi, a genre is taking shape. Man on the Moon’s beats range from tinkling Eighties synth pop to spooky minimalist hip-hop. Man on the Moon: The End of Day is anything but a traditional hip-hop recording thanks to MGMT and the fantastic Ratatat. The best example of this is the hit single Pursuit of Happiness which features both MGMT and Ratatat. The album is a soul searcher and may require more patience than your everyday debut. Still, the chilly, complicated Man on the Moon perfects the futuristic bleak-beat hip-hop.
