Vampire Weekend have been successful in bring back worldbeat with their self titled album success. Now the band have a new album Contra, are they able to be successful again? With so few worldbeat albums around lately it’s hard to compare Contra with anything but their previous album. For those who are wondering what worldbeat is, the genre that fuses non traditional folk (such as Appalachian folk or Celtic traditions) with western pop influences. The Vampire Weekend’s sophomore album is more mature offering and sees the band taking on more creative blends, such as adding some electro and hip-hop influences into the mix. The album is really enjoyable but doesn’t quite live up to their self titled debut.
